Your Way Or My Way
She waits all alone in the rain.
He stares out the window again.
The sky fills with gray
In a welcoming way
The sound of a long distance train
She drifts in and out of a dream
A ship that's still lost out at sea
She laughs then she sleeps
A promise she keeps
Tears and laughter can travel upstream
Your way or my way, we’re lost and we’re found.
We’re poets and dreamers and friends.
A song ’ll take time to find the beginning,
then, quickly, the same song ‘ll end
These wings will be still without birds
This dance will be lost without words
The steps lose their way
When some words won't stay
But poems won't forget what they’ve heard.
I remember when I was you
Before this black hat turned blue
A simple old fashion
An old poet’s passion
For trusting what nobody knew
Let go if you don’t understand
Those birds in the bush and your hand
There’s a will and a way
Should I go? Should I stay?
My footprints get lost in the sand
Sometimes we just don’t quite know
Which road is the best road to go
Two paths both make sense
Two sides of one fence
A choice can both take and bestow
