Passing By

He’s sitting on a broken fence
Trying to make this fence make sense
His best laid plans are all past tense
When someone’s passing by.
She didn’t even see him there
Didn’t even feel him stare
And didn’t know it wasn’t fair
When someone’s passing by
Passing by, passing fancy
A passing glance, a passing chance she
Just might see him, too late,
She’s passing by
The best laid plans of mice and men
May find you all alone again
Or just confessing your next sin
When someone passes by
Everybody thinks nobody thinks
they think that nobody cares.
But someone must be thinking
‘bout someone all alone out there.
Some fences are not meant for mending
Some letters never meant for sending
Sometimes you just can’t keep defending
someone passing by
