Candy Jar
Listen Here
They know all the angles and read all the lines
know all the words but can’t read the signs
they’re too close together to see their own fate
and the art of persuasion gets lost in debate
they can’t find the forest can’t feel the trees
they both think that love is a word they can see
a thing they can pick up and put on a shelf
Sticks and stones,
Words and poems,
Jesters will laugh when they cry
A pair of hearts
in a candy jar
will smile and never know why
they’ll never get lost, so they’ll never be found
they never take chances so they’ll never fall down
they know want they want, but won’t know who they are
‘till they lose themselves in that candy jar
Sometimes we can’t see these losses are wins
Sometimes we can’t recognize our own friends
Sometimes we’re real, sometimes we pretend...
pretend that we know who we are.
Sticks and stones,
Words and poems,
Jesters will laugh when they cry
A pair of hearts
in a candy jar
will smile and never know why
